How the investigation was conducted

Bianca Ingrosso and Pernilla Wahlgren underwent an extensive assessment by psychologist David Waskuri, who used several different tests and interviews to get a clearer picture of their mental health. Among other things, a so-called intelligence test, WAIS, which measures various cognitive abilities, was carried out, as well as a structured ADHD interview called DIVA.

The purpose of these tests was to investigate whether ADHD or other psychiatric diagnoses were present. In addition, a differential diagnosis was carried out through an interview called MINI, which helps to identify any other psychiatric diagnoses or co-morbidity, that is, if there are several diagnoses at the same time.

Different aspects of mental health

Bianca and Pernilla were also asked to complete a series of self-assessment forms that help measure different aspects of mental health and behavior. These included the ASRS, which is used to assess ADHD symptoms in adults, the HAD, which measures anxiety and depression, the MDQ, which is a tool to detect bipolar symptoms, and the RAADS, which is used to identify signs of autism.

The psychologist also conducted a family interview, where relatives were asked to talk about their experiences, and took a medical history, which involves collecting important background information about the person's health and life history.

Psychological tests with a psychiatrist

In addition to these psychological tests, they also met with a psychiatrist, who is a doctor specializing in psychiatry. The psychiatrist not only investigated ADHD and other psychiatric diagnoses, but also examined their physical health by, for example, measuring blood pressure, listening to the heart and taking various blood tests to ensure that there were no physical causes for their symptoms.

Feedback after the ADHD assessment

After all the tests and interviews were completed, the psychologist and psychiatrist had a joint session to discuss the results and arrive at a final diagnosis. Bianca and Pernilla then had a debriefing where they were given a clear overview of the results and an explanation of the diagnosis.

Psychologist's tips: how to tackle depression

Lighter evenings and warmer days may be associated with joy for many. But many also experience heavier emotions.

- You shouldn't stress yourself out because it can make things worse," says David Waskuri, psychologist at Sveapsykologerna.

Spring depression is a so-called seasonal depression. This means that symptoms appear at the same time every year.

Torbjörn Åkerstedt, professor emeritus at the Stress Research Institute, has previously told SVT that research shows that 15% of the population in Sweden feel down in the spring.

The symptoms required to be classified as care depression

According to David Waskuri, for it to be considered depression, you must have had recurrent symptoms for at least two years. They must also last for at least two weeks.

- If you find everything boring, feel depressed, are tired and don't enjoy the things you usually do, it could be a case of depression," he says.
