Sveapsychologists help you with your postponement behaviors

What is procrastination?

Procrastination is another word for procrastination. It is normal to want to put things off because people want to do behaviors before the deadline that is, before a consequence. Most people can recognize themselves in having postponed exams or work tasks until the last second. Some people have higher levels of the personality trait conscientiousness, which has two different parts: orderliness and industriousness. This trait, like the other Big 5 traits, is distributed according to a normal distribution curve, in which a certain amount of the population is in the upper or lower percentiles. The vast majority are somewhere in the middle of the curve, which means that these people are half-nervous and half-workaholic. When personality tests are used for selection purposes, a high score on conscientiousness is often attractive, as it means that the person in question will be hard-working and thorough. Unfortunately, you cannot determine your own personality - it is a combination of both heredity and environment. However, you can work on your weaknesses and train yourself to change your behavior. ADHD often involves problems with starting, completing and finishing tasks. In these cases, the problems are usually so severe that they affect functioning in several areas of life. Regardless of whether it is a major or minor problem with procrastination, the person can become more structured by formulating goals and sub-goals and using external aids such as a calendar, mobile phone reminders, etc.
